Mohammad Hassannezhad, Marco Cantamessa, Francesca Montagna and P. John Clarkson, “Managing Sociotechnical Complexity in Engineering Design Projects,” J. Mech. Des. 141(8): 081101, doi: https://doi.org/10.1115/1.4042614.
In addition, two papers were awarded honorable mentions:
Andrew S. Gillman; Kazuko Fuchi; Philip R. Buskohl, “Discovering Sequenced Origami Folding Through Nonlinear Mechanics and Topology Optimization,” J. Mech. Des. 141(4): 041401, doi: https://doi.org/10.1115/1.4041782.
Dawei Li, Ning Dai, Yunlong Tang, Guoying Dong, and Yaoyao Fiona Zhao, “Design and Optimization of Graded Cellular Structures With Triply Periodic Level Surface-Based Topological Shapes,” J. Mech Des. 141(7): 071402, doi: https://doi.org/10.1115/1.4042617.
The selection of these papers was based on the recommendations of the Associate and Guest Editors and guided by the following criteria (i) fundamental value of the contribution, (ii) expectation of archival value (e.g., expected number of citations), (iii) practical relevance to mechanical design, and (iv) quality of presentation.
Plaques will be awarded to each of the authors of the winning paper and certificates will be awarded to each of the authors of the papers with honorable mentions. I would like to congratulate all the award recipients and look forward to continuing to work with the entire ASME community of editors, authors, reviewers, and staff to bring JMD to the next level of excellence.
